A Request for Comments (RFC) is a memorandum published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) describing methods, behaviours, research, or innovations applicable to the working of the Internet and Internet-connected systems. The name Request for Comments reflects the collegiate nature of the original Internet pioneers: although the name implies a certain informality, RFCs are in fact standards.
