The Internet Engineering Task Force is the standards body which is responsible for defining the public standards that are used on the Internet. Some examples of IETF standards mentioned in my modules are IP (RFC 791), TCP (RFC 794), UDP (RFC 768), FTP (RFC 759), HTTP (RFC 2616), SMTP (RFC 5321), POP (RFC 1939), IMAP (RFC 3501) and DNS (RFC 920) and many others).
