Step 1: Install Portable Firefox 3

If you want to use Firefox on a PC in the School of Engineering or the Library, you may need to install a version that will work from a USB data-stick. This screen-cast demonstrates how you can install the Portable Apps USB application launcher and the portable version of Firefox 3.0. Once Firefox has been installed this way you can always carry a copy around with you to use wherever you happen to be.

There are many other open source applications that have been converted to run on the portable apps platform. Visit the applications page at portableapps.com for a full list. For web development you'll find many useful tools including the Gimp image editor, NVU html editor, XAMPP web platform, file transfer programs and more. The limitation is simply disk space.
