Configuring the Network Server

In our network, host venus is the main server. It will eventually act as a login server, file server, web server and web cache. It will also be able to provide a number of other network services. Because it is located on icct-net, it needs to have solaris set as its default gateway. It will also need routes to both jupiter-net and saturn-net. The settings for this host will be:

# Server venus is a host on icct-net. It needs to know about
# the rest of the network so that it can return messages to the
# saturn and jupiter subnets.
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
  address 192.168.1.2
  network 192.168.1.0 # member of icct-net
  netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1 # default gateway is solaris
  # Route to jupiter-net
up route add -net 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.1.3
down route add -net 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.1.3
  # Route to saturn-net
up route add -net 192.168.3.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.1.4
down route add -net 192.168.3.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.1.4

Any other host that you might later add to icct-net will need to mirror these settings.
