The Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) is a US professional body which has become the home of many of the link-layer telecommunication standards that are in widespread use. Examples of IEEE standards that are widely used in networking are Etherenet (IEEE 802.3) and WiFi (IEEE 802.11g) but there are many others.
