Giga (G)

SI unit prefix meaning 1,000,000,000 (or one billion). In networking terms, it is normally associated with the link capacity (bandwidth) of a high-speed or Internet backbone link. In this context it is used for example as “this link has a bandwidth of 1 gigabits per second (Gbit/s). One gigabit per second is equivalent to 1,000 megabits/second (1,000 Mbit/s).
