+A term that, in the context of netorking, is normally applied to the connection path (or route) between [[end-system|end-systems]] and describes the nature of the path between the communicating [[process|processes]] engaged in a [[application|networked application]] and its performance characteristics. In the [[Internet]] it will one of either the [[connection-oriented|connection-oriented service]] provided by [[TCP]] or the [[connectionless|connectionless service]] provided by [[UDP]].
