Client-Server Application

A networked application in which one party (usually the user agent) requests a service of some server process which is running on a host which has a fixed address on the Internet. The roles of client and server can be fairly fluid, as some Internet applications, e.g. SMTP servers, proxy web servers, and peer-to-peer network participants can simultaneously adopt roles as both client and server.
